Join us for an information session with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA)

When:  Monday November 14, 3:00–4:00 pm

Where:  Virtual

The FDA, Center for Tobacco Products is opening positions within their center for full time Physical Scientists and Biologists. This session is meant to align those pursuing master or doctoral degrees in biology, natural resource, ecology, ecotoxicology, engineering (chemical, civil, mechanical, or similar), environmental science or related fields with a subject matter expert who can brief and answer any questions. Interested master's and doctoral students should register and attend this session to learn more about these opportunities.

Perfect Your Pitch Workshop

When: November 15, 2022, 12:30 pm–1:45 pm

Where: Student Innovation Hall, 1600

Do you have an idea for a product, service, app or technology but are not sure how to get started? Do you feel comfortable talking about your idea? Would you like to develop your “pitch” to talk to anyone anywhere about it?

Translating your idea into an effective pitch is critical if you want to convince people to invest in your idea. This process may be daunting and intimidating, but it is also incredibly rewarding once you find the right mix that effectively combines message, style, cadence and delivery.

On Campus Service Project: Giving Tuesday's Hunger Project

When: Tue, Nov 15, 2022, 11:00 am–3:00 pm EST

Where: Gordon Field House

Join in on RIT's annual Giving Tuesday event on Tuesday, November 15th. 200 RIT volunteers will be teaming up with US Hunger to package and prepare 20,000 nutritious meals for RIT FoodShare & Rochester's FoodLink.

With music booming, lentils flying, and a sea of orange hairnets, volunteers will work together to create a truly dynamic experience...and the by-product? Healthy meals packaged for hungry community members along the way

Graduate electives list makes it easy to find a class and pursue a new interest

The RIT Graduate School has updated a list of graduate-level electives, first issued last fall, with more than 200 courses—from Ceramics to Applied Machine Learning to Topics in Health and Nutrition—open to graduate students during this academic year. Christine Heusner, project manager for graduate programming in the RIT Graduate School, has worked with each college to identify courses suitable for interdisciplinary electives. Most of the courses have no enrollment restrictions, although some require faculty permission, she said.

NSF grant funds RIT postdoctoral fellows in STEM education research

The National Science Foundation has awarded Rochester Institute of Technology $1.2 million for a cohort of four postdoctoral fellows to conduct STEM discipline-based education research (DBER). Professor Dina Newman from the Thomas H. Gosnell School of Life Sciences led a team of College of Science faculty that secured the three-year grant from the NSF Building Capacity in STEM Education Research (BCSER) Program.

RIT scientist develops mathematical model to evaluate potential cancer treatment protocols

A Rochester Institute of Technology scientist helped develop a new mathematical model that could aid doctors and patients assessing different approaches for treating metastatic cancer. Assistant Professor Nourridine Siewe from RIT’s School of Mathematical Sciences is the lead author on a paper published in the Journal of Theoretical Biology outlining the new method.
