AWARE-AI NRT: Workshop on Building a Foundation for Inclusive Research

The AWARE-AI NRT workshop on Building a Foundation for Inclusive Research is facilitated by Dr. Taj Smith, Director of Diversity Education.

Hosted by the AWARE-AI NSF Research Traineeship (NRT) Program, this workshop welcomes NRT Trainees and other RIT graduate students. It will deepen understanding of an inclusive mindset to research in self-reflective scenarios exploring equity, microaggressions, imposter syndrome, epistemic violence, cultural relevance, etc.

Writing Tools for Graduate Students Hybrid Workshop

November 07, 2022, 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm

This workshop first explores what counts as academic writing, then presents 15 tools and tips to help you as a graduate student writer develop productive practices to sustain you through your graduate program and beyond. You’ll be asked to try out many of these tools during the workshop, but no advance preparation is required.

In-person location: Golisano Institute for Sustainability Auditorium; Building 81/SUS, Room 1130

Speaker: Mary Jane Curry, Ph.D., Associate Professor at the Warner Graduate School of Education & Human Development, University of Rochester

Classes are encouraged to attend. In-person attendance is limited to 50 people, with unlimited availability for Zoom attendance. Registration is required.

This is a hybrid event and in-person seating is limited to 50. ASL interpreter services has been requested for the Zoom online session.

In-person attendees will receive a copy of M.J. Curry’s book A-W of academic literacy: Key concepts and practices for graduate students.

Biomedical engineering researcher awarded grant to study chronic skin fibrosis

Wuertz-Kozak recently received more than $400,000 from the Congressional Directed Medical Research Program (CDMRP) to investigate new therapeutic approaches for scleroderma, a chronic autoimmune disease that involves overproduction of collagen, also referred to as fibrosis.

The SHED construction makes progress, surmounts challenges

The Student Hall for Exploration and Development (SHED) will look like nothing else on the RIT campus when construction ends next year. Glass dominates the structure, with exterior walls forming curves and irregular shapes creating dynamic surfaces and tricky assembly.

Application Open for Vanden Brul Entrepreneurial Student Awards

Saunders College of Business is proud to offer the Herbert W. Vanden Brul Entrepreneurial Student Award. This award will be presented to an RIT student who has proven their potential to become a successful entrepreneur. 

The student award is being offered in conjunction with the Herbert W. Vanden Brul Entrepreneurial Award, which is presented annually to a business leader in the community who has successfully managed the development of an “emerging” business. These community recipients are intended to become an inspiration for local students.

Student Flu Vaccine Clinic

RIT is partnering with Wegmans to provide on-campus flu vaccine clinics for RIT students.

Student Alumni Union -1829 Room

How to Schedule Your Flu Shot Appointment:
- Click the "Register" button below
- Select "Schedule New Appointment"
- Select "Flu" under "Other Vaccines"
- Type in the Month, Day, and Year of your desired appointment (see student schedule)
- Search by RIT Zip Code (14623)
- Select the clinic titled "RIT Student Flu Clinic - SAU Room 1829"

**Note: You may see other clinics in your search result, so be sure to select an RIT clinic

You must bring your insurance card to your appointment. If your insurance is not accepted by Wegmans, you can get the flu vaccine at the Student Health Center for $20.

Walk-ins are available but appointments are strongly encouraged.

Foodlink Halloween Volunteer Opportunity 

Foodlink distributes millions of pounds of donated food every year to communities in need. Volunteers are needed to sort, inspect, and pack non-perishable food items before they are distributed.

Join us on Halloween for our Donation Sorting Project from 9:00 am - 12:00 pm or 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm. We're also doing a "best costume" contest, the winner receives a surprise gift!
