The Fiber Composite Reliability Lab (FCRL), led by Dr. Amy Engelbrecht-Wiggans, focuses on quantifying the long term reliability of continuous fiber materials, with the ultimate goal of using laboratory measured fiber and matrix properties to predict failure distributions for large scale composites as well as how those distributions change over time.

To achieve this the lab uses a unique combination of mechanical testing at various scales, statistical Monte-Carlo simulations and stochastic theoretical modeling. Key applications include body armor and composite overwrapped pressure vessels.
