I knew that a Dr. Seuss-themed chair would be difficult, because the characters are very intricate and carefully designed, but I was looking for a challenge and that was certainly what I got!

This chair's design is inspired by traditional Scandinavian Rosemaling decorative painting. I love the aesthetics of the floral designs and bright colors, as well as the connection it has to my predominantly Swedish/Norwegian ancestry. Like previous chairs I've painted for the auction, this one is named after a female member of my extended family - this is for my Great Aunt Linnea. (The base paint is semi-gloss enamel, and the floral design is in acrylic gouache.)

"Cumulus Dreams" is inspired by my late gold fish, Clementine. I like to imagine that he enjoyed looking up at the sky from their tank that resided next to my apartment window for almost six years. Each cloud that passes is a memory, and as clouds morph and fade throughout the sky, it should remind us of the beauty that lies within each of our own journey's. Like clouds, we are unique, transformative, and contain so much history. Clouds remind us that although life may continue passing, we must "just keep swimming" to find new and much more beautiful blue skies ahead.

After sanding the chair, the wood was beautiful. I learned the chair was actually an antique and numbered on the bottom. The fire, to preserve some of the chair I didn't want to paint it. I was researching patterns and came up with the compass idea. Lastly, I always like to incorporate some type of saying into the chairs I create.

While this chair was my project, in a away, it became a family vision - a very RIT family, by the way: husband and I are alums, and my 19-year old stepdaughters are currently sophomores.

I credit my stepdaughters for the inspiration: Gabby (Chemistry) inspired me to do a chair this year when I watched her as she did a chair last year, and her twin sister, Maz (BMS), had a vision of a disco ball chair, so of course, I had to make that happen! This led me to this crazy idea for my chair: a mix of Buffalo Bills Zubaz pattern and some disco mirror accents. It was a labor of love; I may have slightly underestimated how many coats of paint I would need, but it's been such a fun project. Even my cats got in on the action (though there were a few close calls with the wet paint!).

I love that the chairs for the CHAIRity auction are all about being over the top and making something beautiful and/or fun from an old chair - I'm crossing my fingers that my chair finds a perfect home within the Bills Mafia!

The stork standing inside the flower represents the logo for Stork's Nest, a national project adopted by Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. Stork's Nest was designed to promote prenatal care participation and encourage healthy behaviors during pregnancy through two components incentives and education. In celebration of life's precious moments, this chair serves as a comforting haven for expectant and new mothers, where the beauty of life is celebrated, and a source of strength as mothers embark on the extraordinary adventure that is nurturing new life. The chair also includes 5 pearls on the back to represent the 5 trailblazing women who founded Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. for without them, we would not be here to make such an impact on the lives of our community.

The chair celebrates a fraction of the beauty New Mexico has to offer, from the Sandia Mountains, the Bosque, Rio Grande, and Hot Air Balloon Festival, to the 330+ days of sunshine and tasty chiles. The chair is donned with the state flag (The Zia), state bird (Roadrunner), the state shape and a beautiful Aztec pattern on the side. The colors chosen celebrate the vibrancy that the southwest embodies.

Children's chairs are always fun to decorate with characters and themes that they appreciate. What better way to raise money for Margaret's House, than with a children's chair decorated to display one of the most popular shows on TV, Bluey! As I have experienced loss within my family and friends especially from cancer, I wanted to design a chair that encapsulated unspoken compliments. It can be hard sometimes to say what you think, and being able to look at something so simple and feel love from it can be a nice feeling. Phrases from both the Minecraft ending and the song "The Room Is Filled With People That Love You" are included, as I've felt love and joy from these pieces of media that I wanted to give back through this chair.

When I took 3D Design at RIT I realized every project idea I came up with turned into some form of monster/creature. This project was no exception! While brainstorming design ideas a giant tongue came to mind and I went with it. Yes, the concept is weird and uncomfortable but sometimes that makes intriguing art. Originally, I was going to go more in the monster direction, giving the chair an eyeball and feet along with the tongue, but for the sake of time, I simplified the design. Which resulted in this lovely creature of a chair!

This design is based off of the upcoming total solar eclipse on April 8th.

Couldn't get a seat to a Taylor Swift concert? Bid on this one instead! Each piece of the design comes from a component of Taylor Swift's recent Eras tour. The seat has also been reupholstered with custom fabric representing the different colors associated with each of the albums. Take a close look and test your knowledge for hidden easter eggs for each of the albums and even specific songs. This is the perfect piece for your favorite Swiftie.

Chemistchair is a collection of chemistry to display the wonders of science! Look to find all the conformations of the chair!

Gray surrounds are the backdrop as purple and cream blooms across the chair with spring's approaches.

We used a combination of organic and geometric forms to make a fun colorful chair.

In honor of my sister-in-law (who is 31 years post heart-transplant) as she waits for heart transplant number two. She's been so strong and making the best of her circumstances, not only for herself but for those she loves.

I love the stories and poems by Edgar Allan Poe. I used his stories and poems to create imagery for the chair. There's a nod to The Raven, The Cask of Amontillado, Tell-Tale Heart, A Dream Within a Dream, Annabel Lee, and The Black Cat.

The idea behind the artwork was to place a famous and well-known painting on a different size and style canvas, making it uniquely different than the original.

The slight sparkle throughout this creation is meant to initially draw the viewers in and have them look a little closer to the details. Personality arises from every angle. Giving rise to a piece of art as unique as they are.

A truly MAGICAL chair! This year, my goal was to experiment with epoxy resin and lights.

The finished chair is Harry Potter themed, hand-painting between layers of epoxy resin. The sides of the chair show a quidditch scene and a brick-textured castle tower. The seat looks like old parchment reading "I solemnly swear I am up to no good." The back of the chair is a cauldron and flames. Plug it in to see the flames glow and "Mischief Managed" magically appear in the potion!! Proceeds from this chair will support Trillium Health, which provides gender-affirming care to trans and gender-diverse individuals, in addition to many other essential services.

This blue sparks up the winter as we look ahead to brighter days.

Margaret's House has been re-imagining a chair each year since the RIT chaiRITy auction began. This year's theme around the book "The Very Hungry Caterpillar" by Eric Carle, was inspired by classroom activities our teachers created that incorporated the hungry caterpillar and other aspects of the book. The preschoolers at Margaret's House all helped sand the chairs to prepare them, and then we had every classroom paint some papers. We took the painted papers and cut them to form the designs on the chairs - caterpillars, fruit, cocoon, butterfly, and circles. This is the method that Eric Carle often used to illustrate his books. We also had a preschooler paint the base of the sun and the leaf, and then added to that to create the final masterpiece. A staff member donated the accompanying book to complete the set. These chairs are truly a group effort of all at Margaret's House!

Our chair is symbolic of a flower blooming and offers reflections of nature, comfort and peace.

Had fun making spiral and wavy patterns. I hope someone else has just as much fun looking at it.

Inspiration is tough some times. It leads to Pintrest and Google Image searchs until you have "fallen down the rabbit hole" of the internet looking for a spark.

I love to garden! Especially with pollinator plants for bees and butterflies. I thought what a great way to celebrate something I like through a display of art. With spring around the corner, I thought it would be a great way to get in the spring spirit!

Love to design a RIT chair so people can show their Tiger Spirit with a chair. I found an ornate Tribal Tiger design I thought would look great on orange seat on a chair. I left the back of the chair blank and am offering personalization if the Buyer wants it (Like Rochester Institute of Technology, RIT, GO Tigers! - or a personalized name, Etc)

Sarchi Mountain and Meadow was inspired by the Costa Rica art form, known as Sarchi, that adorned the ox carts that transported coffee down, out of the mountains and to the masses. An RIT orange mountain is centered, which is flanked by others, whose color was derived from RIT Identity Assets.

A chair is just as much of a canvas as a piece of paper, so I drew on the given chair the exact same way I draw on my notes.

When you can tell the artist's process by looking at a piece, I feel like that makes the entire experience more personal. We spend a lot of time with the furniture we use, so I wanted this chair to be fun and freeform, like there'd always be something new to notice.

The back of the chair is inspired by Laurie Anderson's "The Weather", an art exhibit in the Hirschhorn Museum. I included lyrics from two of her songs "O Superman" and "Big Science 2" to compliment the visual homage.

I really enjoy the intricate beauty of months. Especially with the lunar moth it has gorgeous colors and features that make it seem like a magical creature. I wanted to highlight the whimsicalness of a lunar moth and adorn it with equally whimsical organic foliage and shapes.
