LEADERSHIP INSTITUTE & COMMUNITY SERVICE CENTER
The RIT Leadership Institute & Community Service Center, which is within the Division of Student Affairs, provides a variety of opportunities for students to learn leadership skills and engage in an array of community service experiences. The mission of the department is to help students develop critical leadership skills for both their personal and career goals, as well as to help them become contributing members of society.
The Community Service Center (CSC) is a campus based clearing-house for RIT students, faculty and staff who are interested in community service opportunities. The CSC provides information on the volunteer needs of more than 200 agencies in the Rochester community. The center coordinates volunteer requests for many types of service opportunities including: classroom assignments, one-day activities, individual placements and group projects.
Partnerships are also maintained with faculty, staff, alumnae, trustees and community leaders to offer students a wide array of exciting and meaningful experiences to choose from. The office offers several leadership courses & programs, as well as a variety of service events each year including, but not limited to: Leadership

- Five Leadership Certificate Programs
- Personal Success Skills, Organizational Leadership, Women’s Career Leadership Certificate, Transfer Student Leadership Certificate, and the Global Leadership Certificate
- RIT Connectology Leadership Advancement Conference
- Off-Campus Leadership & Service Retreats
- Leadership Courses offered through the College of Applied Science and Technology
- Annual Etiquette Dinner
- Real World Breakfast Series offering training for upcoming college graduates
- Monthly Off-Campus Service Projects in the Rochester Community
- Weekly On-Campus Service Programs & Opportunities
- Annual Alternative Spring Break Program partnership with Habitat for Humanity
- Community Service Fairs where students can meet volunteer coordinators from Rochester area service organizations
- Offering the Social Justice Leadership Certificate
For faculty interested in offering a service or leadership component in their courses, the center provides short presentations and will assist students with course appropriate volunteer placements. It offers an extensive online database of agencies and volunteer needs, an events calendar, links to other service related sites, online forms, and much more.
