Who We Are

Who We Are

The Center of Excellence in Advanced and Sustainable Manufacturing (COE-ASM) is a partnership between Empire State Development’s Division of Science, Technology and Innovation (“NYSTAR”) and RIT dedicated to helping New York State manufacturers develop and apply new technologies that create competitive business advantages.

Our Approach

We are a matrix organization with broad technical expertise across multiple industries and applications. Our full-time technical and engineering staff work exclusively on client projects and have no academic responsibilities.

For qualifying projects with New York State companies, funding is available to offset the cost of RIT’s engineering time and materials on a client project.

Our work focuses primarily on process or project design improvements or new technology applications and can usually be structured in such a way as to avoid customer IP concerns. Applied research and manufacturing problem solving is our primary focus rather than theoretically oriented research.

“We turned to the Center to assist us with this new product, and I can say we are very pleased with the results. Working with COE-ASM proved to be a good business move, and as a result we have secured a pilot order that we believe will lead to thousands of additional sales of our product.”Council Rock

Facilities

We are located in the 225,000 square-foot home of the Golisano Institute for Sustainability, consisting of two buildings dedicated to manufacturing and applied research. We are equipped with flexible and adaptable high-bay areas, 15 state-of-the-art laboratories, and a variety of advanced manufacturing machinery and equipment for deployment-scale projects, new technology testing, and systems integration.
