The RIC-RIT World Remanufacturing Conference (WRC) returns September 10–12, 2024, to showcase the market-proven—and market-disrupting—ideas and technologies that are rapidly expanding what “reman” can achieve in today’s fast-changing business environment. The only conference dedicated entirely to remanufacturing across all sectors will be held in Chicago, Illinois, this year with a new lineup of keynote presenters, panel discussions, tours, and more.

In June 2024, a collaboration—Gen7—led by Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) was awarded $50,000 by the U.S Department of Energy (DOE) as a first-round winner of the Re-X Before Recycling Prize. Gen7 aims to create economic opportunities for American Indian-owned enterprises across the United States by building a circular economy business model and supply chain for remanufactured office furniture.

When Ree Dolnick launched Jeca Energy Bars Co. LLC (Jeca) in 2015, she knew she wanted to create an artisanal energy bar that was different from the rest. What she didn’t know was that adding less sugar than what’s found in similar products would mean rethinking her entire manufacturing process—her low-sugar recipes didn’t work on conventional equipment for making bars.

The New York Climate Exchange, a first-of-its-kind organization working to implement innovative climate solutions across the globe, has announced Stephen Hammer as its founding CEO. Hammer will lead a consortium of over 45 partner organizations, including RIT and other leading research universities, and multi-national companies, that are committed to solving the most pressing climate challenges of our time. 

The RIC-RIT World Remanufacturing Conference (WRC) returns November 7–9, 2023, in Springfield, Missouri, to show remanufacturing’s potential as a driver of a zero-carbon economy.

Governors Island, a historical site in New York Harbor for centuries, will be the home to a new world-leading climate solutions center that will position New York City as the global leader for one of the most pressing issues of our time, and RIT is among the affiliate partners.

The REMADE Institute (REMADE) is hosting the first-ever REMADE Circular Economy Technology Summit and Conference. Organized by the institute in partnership with the Ellen MacArthur Foundation and with support from the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE) Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy (EERE), the event will take place at the National Academy of Sciences Building in Washington, D.C., on March 20–21, 2023.

A recent collaboration between GIS and MICROrganic Technologies has brought a highly energy-efficient, sustainable system for treating wastewater closer to market.

The Conversation features Nabil Nasr, associate provost and founding director of RIT’s Golisano Institute for Sustainability.

Davies Office Inc. will work with GIS to assess and improve its inventory management processes. The project aims to reduce transportation and material handling costs, achieve better manufacturing lead times, and cut greenhouse gas emissions for the company based in Albany, New York.

The REMADE Institute (REMADE) selected four projects for award that were proposed by GIS researchers, a funding award totaling $3.5 million. Research will see GIS developing circular economy solutions in partnership with the companies Autodesk, BigBattery, BorgWarner, Caterpillar, and Nike, among others.
