Q&A and film screening with co-star of ‘Guest Artist,’ RIT alumnus Thomas Macias
RIT alumnus Thomas Macias will share his experience co-starring in the award-winning film Guest Artist with Jeff Daniels during a screening and Q&A event Nov. 18 at RIT’s Panara Theater. Macias is a Brighton native who graduated from RIT in 2013 with an applied arts and sciences degree.

RIT launches Napier Leadership Experience for students in the School of Individualized Study
SOIS launched the inaugural Napier Leadership Experience with a day-long leadership retreat during which Sharon D. Napier ’04 MS (service leadership and innovation), chair and founder of Partners + Napier, delivered an interactive presentation to the students to show them how to own their personal brands.

Student Spotlight: Making discoveries abroad with NTID
Looking to learn more about the roots of American deaf culture, fourth-year student Grace Bradford went on a study abroad trip to France. From June 24 to July 4, the ASL/English interpretation and School of Individualized Study double major traveled with other NTID students to Paris, Reims, La Balme-les-Grottes and Lyon.

Program gives new pathway to RIT for students of area community colleges
Under the new program, first-year students at Monroe, Finger Lakes or Genesee Community colleges can enroll to complete a bachelor’s degree from RIT. The students would attend RIT for their second year, and after completing that year, would receive their associate degree from their community college. They would then go on to finish their bachelor’s degree from RIT.

Thomas Macias ’13 (applied arts and sciences) has made his feature film debut, co-staring with actor Jeff Daniels in Guest Artist. Guest Artist was originally written as a play by Daniels and turned into a film by director Timothy Busfield.

Graduate takes unique path to become a well-rounded engineer
Emma Sarles ’17 (industrial design) has taken the road less traveled to become an engineer. Without ever earning a bachelor’s degree in engineering, Sarles has spent the last two years working toward a customized professional studies master’s degree that specializes in medical device engineering and applied biomaterials.
