The historic Pile Gate is the main entrance to Dubrovnik, Croatia’s medieval Old Town. Built in 1537, Pile Gate’s drawbridge, inner and outer sections, is the western entrance to the city and a good starting point for exploring the medieval walls.
Two bridges lead to the gate across its moat and are complete with a stone bridge and a drawbridge worked by means of a windlass, chains, and counter weights. Pile Gate is also a popular filming location, with its most famous appearance coming in HBO’s Game of Thrones.
