Co-op Duration per major (minimum duration to fulfill the requirement):

  • Engineering: 2 x 10 weeks + 2 x 14 weeks (total of 48 weeks)

  • Business: 12 weeks

  • Computing: 2 x 12 weeks (total of 24 weeks)

Co-Op Reporting Process

Steps:

The student enters their potential co-op on the Co-op reporting form AND sends the contract and job description to coopdubai@rit.edu according to the Subject Lines instructed.

What’s new in Co-Op Reporting?

You only have 1 point of contact: the Co-Op office. We will send your final approval for the total co-op (contract and job description) to faculty advisors. You should not email your faculty advisor for job description approval. Faculty have been asked to ignore such requests.

Co-Op Evaluation Process-Students

Up to 2 weeks before the end of the co-op, remind your employer/work supervisor to complete your evaluation form. *Evaluation link will be sent to you and your supervisor via automated email* Make sure that both yours and your employer’s evaluations are filled p.
Upon completion of the co-op, pass by the Co-Op Office to discuss your experience
Visit your faculty advisor and discuss the co-op experience and evaluation you received

Co-op Prerequisites per Major

Mechanical Engineering

Students must be in good academic standing. (CGPA >2.0)

Course pre-requisites:

  • MECE 110-Thermodynamics I

  • MECE 203, MECE 204- Strength of Materials I and Lab

  • EGEN 99: Co-Op prep course

  • MECE 211: Engineering Measurements Lab (from 2171 onwards)

  • Total duration: minimum of 48 weeks

Minimum duration of a single co-op placement: 10 weeks

Only full-time co-op placements are permitted

Electrical Engineering

Students must be in good academic standing (CGPA >2.0)

Course pre-requisites:

The students must successfully finish the following courses before starting the first co-op:

  • EEEE 105: EE Practicum

  • EEEE 120: Digital Systems I

  • EEEE 220: Digital Systems II

  • EEEE 281: Circuits I

  • EEEE 282: Circuits II

  • EEEE 260: Semiconductor Devices (Desired but not required)

  • EGEN 99: Co-Op prep course

Computing & Information Technologies

Students must be in good academic standing (CGPA >2.0)

Minimum of 49 unit hours towards your baccalaureate degree.
Minimum of 26 unit hours of Networking and System Administration core courses.

Course pre-requisites:

  • ISTE 230: Intro to Database and Data Modelling

  • ISTE 240:Web and Mobile II

  • NSSA 241: Intro to Routing & Switching

  • NSSA 221: System Admin I

  • ISTE 99: Co-Op Preparation Course

Computing Security (InfoSec)

Students must be in good academic standing (CGPA >2.0)

Minimum of 49 unit hours towards your baccalaureate degree.
Minimum of 26 unit hours of Computing Security core courses.

Course pre-requisites:

  • CSEC 99: Co-Op prep course

Business

Students must be in good academic standing. (CGPA >2.0)

The first co-op can start as early as the end of Year 2.

Course prerequisite: MGMT 035: Co-Op prep course
