Math Competition

Overview

Challenging minds and inspiring futures, RIT Dubai’s Eighth Annual Mathematics Competition empowers high school students to discover the real-world power of mathematics.

All competitions should be prepared in advance and conducted on the day of the competition.

Deadline to register: October 10, 2025

RIT Dubai is proud to host its eighth annual mathematics competition, inviting high school students to explore the essential role of mathematics in real-world applications. As a foundation for fields like science, engineering, and economics, mathematics underpins many degree programs worldwide. This competition aims to inspire students' passion for mathematics, sharpen their problem-solving, critical thinking, and logical reasoning skills, and identify exceptional talent.

Competition Rules

  • Students in grades 11 and 12 are invited to participate.
  • Each school may register only one team, with a maximum of three students per team.
  • Each team is required to submit a written report detailing their solutions and reasoning no later than 5:00 p.m. on Friday, October 24, 2025.
  • Participants are required to deliver an oral presentation on the day of the competition, November 11, 2025, at RIT Dubai Campus.

Project Summary

Participants are asked to complete a mathematical modeling project that applies key mathematical concepts to solve or analyze a real-world problem. The project must meet the following TWO criteria:

  • Address a real-life situation.
  • Use one of the following two topics: Differentiation or Integration.

Project Report Guidelines

  • The report is the reflection of your investigation on the real-life application you selected.
  • The report must begin with an introductory paragraph in which you discuss the application field and the objective of your project. It must contain a conclusion and future work at the end.
  • Submit a single Word document that includes a cover page clearly stating the names of all group members and the name of your high school.
  • Specific details about the structure of a strong mathematical report are provided in a separate document titled "Mathematical Report Guide Book."
  • Make sure all mathematical ideas and concepts are communicated effectively and clearly.
  • Length: 6 to 8 pages - excluding the cover page and reference page. Don't be afraid to keep the text short and to the point, and to include illustrative figures and diagrams.
  • Edit your work before submission. The editing process includes typographical errors, grammatical errors, spelling errors, and run-on sentences.

Oral Presentation Guidlines

  • The presentations will take place on the day of the competition, November 11, 2025 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
  • Prepare 5 to 6 slides to present your work within a maximum of 10 minutes.
  • Communicate clearly, using appropriate eye contact, pace, and volume.
  • Ensure your slides are well-organized, attractive, and consistent with expectations in the field of research.
  • Begin your presentation by clearly stating the specific problem to be addressed.
  • The presentation will count for 30% of your final score.

Evaluation

A panel of three judges will assess the entries of the competition. The competition criteria that will be used for judging the entries are given below:

  • Selection of the real-life situation - 10%
Uniqueness of the chosen topic (5%)
Depth and complexity of the topic (5%)
  • Project Report - 60%
    Mathematics and Analysis  (45%)
    Presentation of the Report (10%)
    Writing (5%)
  • Oral Presentation - 30%
Scientific content, organization, and structure (10%)
    Delivery, professionalism (10%)
    Creativity & visual appeal (10%)
