Solar Car Race Competition
Build a solar-powered car, meet the technical requirements, and race it on a 20-meter track.
Point of Contact
Prepared Competition
This is a prepared competition that requires thorough advance preparation. Students must design, practice, test, and finalize their car according to the provided guidelines and bring the completed car to the RIT Dubai campus on the day of the competition, where judging and live performance will take place onsite.
Students enrolled in the smart solar car competition are required to build a solar-powered, remote-controlled car according to given technical specifications and race it on competition day along a flat, straight 20-meter track.
Competition Rules
Students in Grades 11 and 12 are invited to participate.
Each school may register only one team, with a maximum of three students per team.
Students are responsible for the design, construction, testing, and maintenance of their model solar car, including all design and engineering decisions.
Teams must design and build their project according to the specified requirements and bring the completed model solar car to the RIT Dubai campus on competition day.
Technical Specifications
Maximum Dimensions
The racing car must not exceed 30 cm wide × 60 cm long × 30 cm high.
Solar Power
The racing car must be powered solely by the sun's energy. Only one solar panel is permitted.
No Energy Storage
No energy storage devices may be used during the race.
Remote Control
The car must include a remote control to keep it in its assigned lane. One student from each team will control the car during the race.
Secure Mounting
Teams must ensure that the solar panel is securely mounted before the start of the race.
Motor & Gears
Teams may use their own motor and gears. Each racing car may use one motor and one solar panel.
Vehicle Materials
The remainder of the vehicle may be constructed using any material, subject to the specified dimensions and competition requirements.

Competition Flow
Evaluation
Students compete not only for the fastest car, but also for excellence in design, sustainability, engineering, and creativity.
Design
Car made from eco-friendly materials, with planned manufacturing that minimizes waste and optimizes energy efficiency throughout the system.
Power
A solar panel that is compatible with the motor, with clear evidence that the panel provides sufficient power for the motor to operate effectively.
Control
Demonstrates stable control of the motor, including the ability to steer the car effectively to the left and right.
Speed
Car performance based on the minimum time required to cover the track.
