AI-Powered Drone for Smarter, Faster Search and Rescue Missions

In emergency scenarios, particularly in remote or disaster-stricken areas, rescue operations must be quick and precise. Traditional methods often struggle with limited resources and accessibility. Our senior design project enhances search and rescue (SAR) efficiency by developing an advanced drone system using the DJI Tello Drone, integrating modern technologies for improved performance.
The project involved extensive preparatory work including literature reviews, system design, simulation modeling, and regulatory compliance checks in the United Arab Emirates. It aims to build a functional SAR drone equipped with advanced sensors, reliable communications, autonomous navigation, extended battery life, and AI algorithms for enhanced detection capabilities, including a live video feed and AI-powered object detection. Our project optimizes SAR operations by combining the DJI Tello Drone’s features with AI enhancements, meeting high standards of performance and reliability to effectively save lives in emergencies.
