New Student Newsletter

Get in the habit of checking your RIT email frequently

On Monday, July 1, we’ll no longer send important RIT email communications, including New Student Newsletters, to your non-RIT email account. Start checking your RIT email often.

Getting where you need to go at RIT - whether it’s your residence hall, a classroom, or the dining halls - starts with a few key steps. In this newsletter, you’ll learn how to get your RIT ID card ready, explore campus maps and tunnel routes, and understand your transportation and parking options. These tools and tips are designed to help you feel confident navigating campus as you prepare for your first day at RIT.

Get Your RIT Student ID Card Ready

Your RIT Student ID card is a must-have for daily campus life, from getting into buildings to eating and using recreation facilities. It also helps staff recognize you.

To make sure your ID card is ready when you arrive, follow these two steps:

  1. Submit Your Photo: Upload a photo that meets RIT's guidelines. Keep an eye on your RIT email for confirmation that it's been approved.
  2. Enter Your Chosen Name (Optional): If you'd like a chosen name on your ID card, add it in the "Display name" field at start.rit.edu.

Key Deadlines:

  • Living in RIT Housing? Your photo must be approved before you can pick a move-in appointment time (selection starts Monday, June 30). You'll get your ID during Move-in.
  • Not living in RIT Housing? Get your photo approved by Thursday, July 31, to have your ID card printed for pickup during Orientation check-in.

Find Your Way Around (and Under) Campus

You’ll be navigating your way around campus a lot during your time at RIT. Use the interactive campus map to get to where you need to be.

Looking for a shortcut (and a fun piece of RIT history)? Explore the RIT Tunnels in this student-led Tunnel Tour video >

Pro tip: Landmarks like the Infinity Quad and the Sentinel sculpture make great meeting spots and help you get oriented fast.

Parking & Transportation

If you plan to bring a vehicle to campus, you must purchase a parking permit annually at the start of the academic year through the MyParking Portal. Review the parking permit options so you are prepared to purchase your permit when sales begin on Wednesday, August 13.

RIT has on-campus transportation services to make your everyday commute to, from, and around campus easier. Learn about campus transportation and ParkMobile parking options on the Parking and Transportation Services website.
