Vignelli Center for Design Studies sponsors an annual and much anticipated event, Beyond Fashion. The third annual show will be at RIT Magic Spell Studios Sound Stage on December 8, 2023.
A celebration of design and community, Beyond Fashion weaves together a diverse collection of garments crafted by select local designers and students from RIT College of Art and Design’s Metal and Jewelry Design and Industrial Design.
This year’s theme is ‘The Grid is Everything’ – a tribute to Lella and Massimo Vignelli’s key design principle. The work featured is inspired by artifacts from the Vignelli Center for Design Studies Archive.
And what fun! Shop One is deeply imbedded in this year’s event. Maddy Schoenfeld (Shop One manager) is at the helm corralling the talent to produce this major event. Etta Arnold and Emma Williamson, student producers (and ace Shop One student employees) tapped teams of Graphic Design students to design collateral, New Media students to create the video backdrops, and dozens of students to model the creations.
Three of the featured designers - Wendy Marks, director of Shop One and University Gallery, Kelly Gampietro, owner/designer of Fishy Patchwork and Pat Pauly, contemporary fiber artist each have work featured regularly in Shop One.
