Electrical Engineering
“In my three years at RIT, I have been involved in many student
groups including the RIT Gospel Ensemble, the National Society of Black
Engineers (NSBE), Unity House (a special-interest residence hall floor),
and the Black Awareness Coordinating Committee. I recently joined the
College of Engineering Student Programming Board, which meets weekly during
the school year to give the administration feedback and to help plan events
for students.
“This year, the NSBE implemented several middle school and high
school engineering initiative programs, academic support workshops, technical
awareness programs, company presentations (such as IBM), and résumé
and co-op workshops. As corporate relations chair, I learned a great deal
about professional communication and networking and participated in an
on-campus career fair that attracted more than 400 companies. Every year,
a large RIT contingent travels to the NSBE national convention (this year
held in Orlando, FL) where famous speakers lead ceremonies and workshops.
It usually is the highlight of the year.”
