Other Degree Granting Units
Dr. Dua Weraikat is an Associate Professor of Industrial Engineering at RIT Dubai and the Chair of the Industrial Engineering Department, having built and led the program as its coordinator since 2016. Her research sits at the intersection of operations research, supply chain management, and applied artificial intelligence, with a focus on pharmaceutical supply chain resilience, sustainability, and data-driven decision-making.
Dr. Weraikat earned her Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering from Concordia University, Canada, where her dissertation on coordination mechanisms for sustainable pharmaceutical supply chains was awarded distinction. Her early work on pharmaceutical reverse supply chain coordination, published in leading Q1 journals (such as IJPE and CAIE), remains among the most cited in the field, with individual articles exceeding 100 citations.
Her 2025 scholarship was exceptionally productive. She published multiple articles in Q1 and Q2 journals, including a review of machine learning and artificial intelligence in pharmaceutical supply chain resilience that has already attracted more than 40 citations. She co-chaired the International Conference on Optimization and Learning (OLA 2025), hosted in Dubai, and co-edited its Springer proceedings. She serves as Guest Editor for a special issue on sustainable logistics systems, artificial intelligence, and combinatorial optimization, and was elected Director of the Operations Research Division Board of the Institute of Industrial and Systems Engineers (2025–2027). Her contributions were further recognized with the IISE Arabian Peninsula Regional Faculty Advisor Award and the IISE Gold Chapter Recognition Award. Beyond publications, she leads numerous funded applied projects spanning smart agriculture, transportation forecasting, healthcare operations, and marine monitoring, and in late 2025 developed an AI-powered interactive application for teaching linear programming, deployed in classroom instruction from spring 2026. Throughout, she integrates undergraduate and graduate students into research that yields peer-reviewed publications and international awards.
