Ed Wolf ’09 has had a varied career since graduating in 2009 with a degree in Computer Engineering. Having left Rochester, he worked in Boston then New York City before ultimately setting down roots in sunny California; Ed hasn’t looked back (or shoveled snow since).

With over a decade of experience at industry leaders like Meta and Uber, Ed has dedicated his career to turbo-charging employee productivity and building developer tools. Today, he serves as a Staff Technical Program Manager at GEICO, where he is instrumental in modernizing the technical infrastructure of one of the nation’s largest auto insurers. He’s proud to bring Silicon Valley innovation to this well-known industry leader—and yes, to work alongside everyone’s favorite Gecko.

Ed says, “When I was in high school and considering universities, RIT's Computer Engineering program stood out due to its high ranking. I've always had a passion for computers, and RIT offered exceptional programs, cutting-edge lab facilities, and the benefit of being close to my family in New York and Connecticut. What ultimately made the decision for me was the cooperative education component of the degree. The opportunity to apply my classroom knowledge in the real world is truly what distinguished RIT from other institutions.”

Ed believes that his degree was strong and broad enough for him to work in a variety of energizing industries, something he hoped for when choosing RIT.

Ed did co-ops at Genworth Financial, Johnson & Johnson, and Savant Systems where he quickly discovered that his best work happens at the speed of tech. While regulated industries offered stability, he was drawn to the "move fast" culture of innovation. His alignment with fast-paced, tech-centric environments has led him to the front lines of some of the most era-defining shifts in technology—from the birth of digital magazines and the revolution of ride-sharing to the maturation of social platforms and mixed reality.

In addition to his studies in computer engineering, Ed was heavily involved in other areas of campus. “I spent a significant amount of time at RIT in leadership roles on both the Greek Council and Student Government, with the goal of enhancing the quality of student life on campus. I firmly believe that a positive on-campus experience encourages students to become active and engaged alumni,” says Ed.

Ed has continued to serve RIT on the Alumni Association's Board of Directors for the past 9 years.  As an Alumni Association Board member, Ed is engaged in a variety of programs that educate and engage with alumni all over the world. He also spends time advocating for the student experience from the time a student enters RIT to the continuation of their role as an engaged RIT alum.

“It's important to me as an alum that my service on the board keeps the student experience a central focus, advocating for their well-being and the continued support.” As Ed notes, “There is no right or wrong way to be involved; you can choose the level of engagement that fits your lifestyle. You might follow RIT's Facebook or Instagram page, donate to a fundraiser, refer a prospective student, or submit a class note that celebrates a personal milestone.”
