Kate Gleason College of Engineering

Alicia Scott

BS '89

Alicia Scott’s journey has been defined by breaking barriers, building bridges, and leading with both vision and heart. A proud graduate of Rochester Institute of Technology’s Kate Gleason College of Engineering, Alicia made history as the first Black woman to earn a degree in Microelectronic Engineering from RIT. That milestone set the tone for a career built on resilience, innovation, and a commitment to creating opportunities for others.

Her education instilled a way of thinking that continues to shape her leadership today—rooted in engineering problem-solving, workforce strategy, and operational leadership. After RIT, Alicia expanded that foundation with an MBA from Arizona State University, blending technical expertise with business strategy. Across industries and roles, she has consistently brought together technology, operations, and people in ways that drive meaningful results.

Today, as Director of Strategic Talent Operations at Resideo, Alicia leads global workforce strategies that align processes, systems, data and business goals to power organizational growth. Her work has optimized complex operations across continents, streamlined talent processes, and informed executive decision-making with data-driven insights. In previous leadership roles, she managed multimillion-dollar budgets, directed global HR teams, and oversaw the development of new product lines that generated tens of millions in revenue annually—all while ensuring people and culture remained at the heart of transformation.

What distinguishes Alicia is not just the scale of her impact but the way she achieves it. She is known as a leader who listens deeply, creates clarity amid complexity, and turns challenges into opportunities. Colleagues describe her as a visionary who can imagine a bold future while also operationalizing it into tangible, sustainable outcomes.

Beyond her professional success, Alicia is a dedicated mentor, advocate, and transformative leader. She has guided emerging professionals and students, particularly those from underrepresented backgrounds, ensuring they see pathways to thrive in engineering, leadership, and beyond. Her service extends to leadership roles as a Board Member of the Valley of the Sun YMCA and National Council Member for RIT’s Kate Gleason College of Engineering. She is also a proud lifetime member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., where her commitment to service and scholarship continues.

Even in her personal life, Alicia embodies curiosity, resilience, and a commitment to growth. Her parents, Norman and Denise Bineyard, were pivotal influences in her journey, instilling a deep respect for education and lifelong learning. Their guidance fueled her pursuit of engineering at RIT and her continued professional development. Alicia also credits her husband, Jimmy Scott, whose unwavering support has been instrumental in her evolution as a leader, providing both encouragement as she navigated increasingly complex global roles in the corporate world and partnership in various small business ventures. Outside of work, she is an avid traveler—once circling the globe three times in a single year—who also delights in sports, music, and the arts.

Through every chapter of her career and life, Alicia has carried her RIT experience with her—the discipline of engineering, the courage to pioneer, and the belief that innovation is not only about products and systems but also about people and possibility. For her trailblazing achievements, her unwavering commitment to mentorship and inclusion, and her ability to bridge technical excellence with human-centered leadership, Alicia exemplifies the innovation and resilience that define RIT alumni.
