Carl Chiarenza

Carl Chiarenza, noted photographer and art educator, studied photography in his hometown at Rochester Institute of Technology, graduating in 1957. Early in his career, he had strong interests in both photojournalism and creative photography – he earned two graduate degrees from Boston University in journalism and art history, and eventually a PhD. in art history from Harvard. He taught art history at Boston University, and later returned to Rochester to serve as chair of the Department of Art and Art History at the University of Rochester.
