The Human Form: Dynamic Figure Studies

This project explores human anatomy, gesture, and proportion through careful observation and freehand drawing. Emphasis is placed on balance, expression, and spatial composition, allowing each figure study to capture both the structure and the energy of the human form. Through these exercises, the drawings become dynamic visual explorations that combine technical understanding with expressive movement, highlighting the relationship between form, posture, and vitality.

This artwork is a dynamic study of human anatomy and movement, captured through a martial arts encounter. The drawing shows a precise moment of impact, showcasing the balance, strength, and technique demanded by the sport. The composition reflects a strong understanding of form, proportion, and physical rhythm, demonstrating the ability to translate energy and discipline into a refined pencil illustration. The mediums used to achieve this are different shades of pencils.

This project is about accurately depicting the clothed human figure, which serves an extra challenge as clothing and folds are a category of their own. The drawing is of a lady in traditional Japanese attire holding a katana, in a fighting stance. The mediums used were charcoal, pencils, alcohol markers and white ink on an A2 paper.

For the human figure assignment I wanted to draw a regal lady from the Chinese dynasty. Something that gave old fashioned vibes to it while still looking like it was modern. The main aspects to the drawing would be the hair accessories and the dress. The dress focuses on the intricate details of the patterns woven onto it so that it doesn't lose the authenticity and beauty of the art piece. This drawing used various graphite pencils for shading , but mainly 6B, 8B and 10B.

These drawings aim to achieve a high level of realism through careful exploration of volume and contrast. Both pieces are created using graphite, a medium that naturally enhances a strong tonal range. They are executed on heavyweight paper, with sizes varying between A3 and A2. For the princess and the knight, I was inspired by the relationship dynamics between these two characters, which is built on honor, loyalty, and mutual respect. The princess embodies leadership, grace, and responsibility, while the knight embodies steadfastness, bravery, and loyalty.
