Foundations in Form: Studying 3D Shapes
This project examines the fundamentals of form and structure through both freehand and technical drawings of basic three-dimensional shapes. Using pencil and ink, each study explores spheres, cubes, cones, and pyramids to understand proportion, contour, and shading. Emphasis is placed on how light, shadow, and perspective define volume, providing a solid foundation for representing depth and dimensionality in more complex compositions. The result is a series of precise and insightful sketches that strengthen the artist’s grasp of spatial and structural principles.

This project is about volumes of three-dimensional shapes, but there are textures incorporated to make it more interesting, and the mediums used were pencils, charcoal, white ink and black ink. I picked a dynamic composition with a marble ball semi-balancing on a wooden pole and shaded it fully to make it as advanced as I could.

This project explores various types of textures and how they interact with one another. I drew multiple objects in 3 dimensions through the use of different values, which gave volume. I used graphite as the primary medium, which allowed me to effectively convey different surface qualities. The work was completed on A4 sheets.
