Center for Geographic Information Science & Technology at the Rochester Institute of Technology conducts basic and applied research related to geographic information science, geographic visualization and analytics, spatial thinking, geographic education. Applications of our research are primarily applied to the domains of disaster management, refugee affairs, and educational capacity building in developing countries. Our team is internationally focused with research projects in Europe, Asia, and Africa.

(Spring 2023) 

CGIST Director Brian Tomaszewski, Ph.D. has received a Fulbright U.S. Scholar Program award in Geography - Cartography for the 2023-2024 academic year from the U.S. Department of State and the Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board.

Dr. Tomaszewski will spend the 2023-2024 academic year at the Poznań University of Technology in Poznań, Poland for his project: Spatial Data Science Research and Education on Ukrainian Refugees in Poland.

The Fulbright Program is the U.S. government’s flagship international educational exchange program and is sup-ported by the people of the United States and partner countries around the world. The Fulbright Program is funded through an annual appropriation made by the U.S. Congress to the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs.
