Conservation Science: Heritage Materials
IPI is pleased to announce the publication of the Second Edition of the Royal Society of Chemistry’s Conservation Science: Heritage Materials, co-edited by our Director of Research, Emma J Richardson. To achieve greatest impact, conservation science requires close collaboration with key stakeholders such as conservators, curators, artists and the public, providing context for scientific analysis and ensuring critical questions are addressed. The aim of this book is to provide a starting point for dialogue between allied disciplines and a common language of understanding for materials science and materials analysis in conservation. Building on the first edition of Conservation Science (May & Jones 2006), which provided an emphasis on archaeological materials and contexts, this new edition includes additional material types and emphasizes the application of currently available methods of analysis and data processing that have emerged in the past decade. These are presented alongside notable case studies for each class of material.
With contributions by scientists working across the cultural sector, this textbook will interest students, scientists involved in conservation, and conservators who want to develop their understanding of collections at a material level.
