Abstract
There are not enough standardized American Sign Language (ASL) assessment instruments for deaf children who learn ASL as their first language. In this Plenary Speech Hauser discussed why standardized testing is important and what makes a test psychometrically sound. New tests in development were shared and how each test's reliability and validity were measured was illustrated. The differences between Classical Testing Theory and Item Response Theory were compared.
