Mazique, Rachel. "Code-Meshing 'Blakdeafemales' foregrounding Intersectionality and the Languages of Black Deaf Communities." In Press. TS - typescript (typed). «

Abstract

This article presents an interdisciplinary linguistic and literary analysis of Kristi Merriweather’s poetry to demonstrate the importance of examining intersectionality through sociolinguistics. I analyze how she and RIT/NTID alumnus Yolanda Ford code-mesh with Black English, White Mainstream English, ASL, and Black ASL. This article spotlights these important literary artifacts by “Blakdeafemales” (Merriweather) for academic study by linguists and literary scholars, contributing to the field of raciolinguistics.
