Gamification and Performance-Based Monitoring of Sensorimotor Training Activities

Experience a system that will help you train like an astronaut! When astronauts land on Earth after their mission, the gravity we experience every day becomes a challenge that they must work to overcome. With our design, you can play games like Just Dance, Dance Dance Revolution, Wii Fit, and Beat Saber in order to see how your balance stacks up to others. Our team was tasked to design and build a training system that combines interactive games with real-time visual biofeedback for proprioceptive training, performance-based assessment, and sensorimotor conditioning. Our system uses a soft gaming mat that utilizes real-time physiological measurements and motion capture information as a control input to integrate movement in the VR space. These activities are designed to assist with rehabilitation of balance, hand-eye coordination, cognitive functions, and muscle tone of astronauts upon reentry to Earth's atmosphere, with levels such as River Run, Minecart Escape, and Puzzling Times.
