Mixed Media Film Photography

Location

Frank E. Gannett Hall - 2050 & 2070

The Film Photography Group at RIT invites exhibitors to experience a variety of film photography based media submitted by our members. Each participating member will select their best works from throughout the school year to be featured in the exhibit, displayed using a medium of their choice. Each artwork, while rooted in the traditional craft of film photography, is transformed through contemporary mediums, offering a unique fusion of old and new. Potential mediums include mounted prints, collages, projections, paintings, or even an array of CRT TVs. This blend of artistic techniques allows for a rich exploration of texture, color, and form, inviting the viewer to see beyond the conventional boundaries of photography. Each art piece will not only benefit from the unique qualities of the film stock, camera body, and lens used to create the original photograph, but also transform the image through the method used to display it. This array of personally curated collections will highlight the creativity of our members and spark visitor engagement. A variety of cameras and equipment will also be on display, to show the wide range of tools photographers have at their disposal and to reinforce the idea that film photography is as simple, or as complicated as the artist intends.
