RIT SAE Clean Snowmobile Team

Location

Gordon Field House - Main Floor

We are a collegiate performance team that competes in the annual SAE Clean Snowmobile Challenge. Our goal is to modify a stock snowmobile to be more fuel efficient, produce less harmful emissions, and create less noise pollution while maintaining performance. The exhibit would consist of one or two snowmobiles, two banners, a flag with its own stand, a popup tent, and a table underneath it. The two banners will be kept on either side of the tent. One banner displays pictures of the team and another explains general team information. On the table, there will be flyers, rider gear, and other various snowmobile-related parts the team has worked on. Modifications include fuel table modifications, a new muffler, and an Accelerometer Data Acquisition System. The fuel table is customized to increase the engine efficiency. The team can map several different fuel configurations to see the benefits they might bring. Sled telemetries can remotely be tracked to test new engine tunes. The muffler is a custom part of the exhaust system. It is designed to reduce the noise the sled produces, reduce weight, and increase the useable engine bay space. It was also designed with the goal of simplified fabrication and mass manufacturing. The Accelerometer Data Acquisition seeks to measure high-resolution vibrational data from key points on the snowmobile for sound analysis. Several sensors can be placed around the sled and the acceleration (vibration) data acquired can be analyzed by the team and used to diagnose the points on the sled that could benefit from noise reduction.
