Become a Learning Assistant
Learning Assistants (LAs) are pedagogically trained undergraduate students who collaborate with faculty to create active, student-centered classrooms.
As part of their role, LAs take a credit-bearing (2-credit) pedagogy course. This course provides them with essential skills to:
- Reflect on student learning and adapt to the needs of their peers
- Apply evidence-based teaching strategies to enhance classroom engagement
- Collaborate with faculty to improve learning outcomes and foster an inclusive learning environment
This combination of hands-on experience and pedagogical training equips LAs with the tools to effectively support their peers and contribute to the success of the class.
How to Apply
- Apply – Both faculty and students complete the LA Program application.
- Interview – Applicants may be invited to discuss goals, experience, and availability.
- Matching – LAs and faculty are paired based on course needs, experience, schedules, and goals.
- Placement – Final decisions are made about two weeks before the semester begins, depending on when teaching schedules are confirmed.
