IE Progress Report

Demonstrating continuous quality improvement is critical to RIT’s administrative units. The University Assessment Council (UAC) developed a reporting tool and process to highlight how administrative units contribute to institutional effectiveness.

The Institutional Effectiveness Progress Report (IE PR) provides the opportunity to demonstrate how each administrative unit is supporting the university’s mission and goals and uses data to drive improvement processes.

IE Progress Report Timeline and Resources

August: Survey launch by administrative unit
September-November: Administrative unit reporting period
December-February: EEA office analyzes data
March-April: Campus-wide reporting cycle

The University Assessment Council provides oversight for the IE Progress Report, and division representatives assist with report completion. Additionally, the Office of Educational Effectiveness offers consultations, resources, and support in developing IE Maps and completing the IE Progress Report. Please use the following resources to navigate RIT's IE PR process.

IE Progress Report Results

The University Assessment Council (UAC), which is comprised of representatives from RIT’s seven divisions and NTID, provides oversight for this systematic quality assurance process. The UAC evaluates each progress report using the Continuous Improvement Rubric and prepares a university-level summary.

The university’s goal is that 100% of its administrative units are rated effective or higher on their annual progress report submissions. This annual reflection and renewal process provides strong evidence of effective practices that promote continuous improvement.

Frequently Asked Questions

The IE Progress Report is a form that asks administrative units in each division to report on an objective assessed in the previous year. The questions focus on how assessment results guided decisions and resource allocation or directly led to changes to improve services, operations, or processes. The IE Progress Report instrument aligns with the information included in the Institutional Effectiveness Map (IE Map) or assessment plan for the unit.

There are three key reasons for completing the IE Progress Report:

  1. Demonstrate how effectively administrative units support RIT’s mission, vision, and goals.
  2. Demonstrate the use of administrative unit assessment results for continuous improvement
(enhancing operations, planning, guiding decision making, allocating resources, etc.).
  3. Provide evidence of systematic processes that are meaningful and sustainable for assessing administrative unit goals.

In response to feedback we have received from the administrative units, the University Assessment Council (UAC) created an alternative format for submitting the IE Progress Report. You may choose to complete either a traditional format (structured response) or the narrative format (unstructured response). The same rubric is used to evaluate each format.

The UAC developed a review process for the annual IE Progress Report. The reports are reviewed by two raters using a university rubric developed by representatives from all of RIT’s divisions. The Institutional Effectiveness – Administrative Units Continuous Improvement Rubric articulates a definition of data‐driven continuous improvement. The results are used to provide a university-level annual update on data driven continuous improvement efforts to support the mission and goals of the university.

All administrative units have a workspace housed in Taskstream by Watermark™, RIT’s Assessment Management System. A unit leader(s) is given access to the workspace for each administrative unit. Please contact Grace Rubin at gsrdfp@rit.edu with any sign in issues or Taskstream related questions.

The administrative unit workspace was designed based on RIT’s IE Map template and provides the following:

  • A home for the unit’s IE Map (strategic planning tool, or assessment plan), and record of any changes or updates
  • A place to annually record, track and store their goals and objectives
  • An archive for the data collected to measure goals and objectives
  • An opportunity to reflect on how the unit is using the findings to make improvements
