Wheelness

Current Solution

The team for this summer decided not to significantly change the design that previous teams had developed. We came to the conclusion that the mechanism of which the seat pad is attached to the chair should be changed from slipping a cushion into the pad to the pad being a thin cover which can be easily attached to the seat without having to change other features that the wheelchair already has.

Problem Statement

Wheelchair users are often inconvenienced by the possibility of developing pressure sores if they stay in the same position for an extended period of time. Shifting or changing positions is a common preventative strategy; however, determining whether the user has shifted into a new position or has shifted often enough can be difficult.
