Students become Digital Volunteers for the Smithsonian and originally transcribe or review items from the museum's collections and transcribe the items using the digital files provided through the Smithsonian’s platform. The second part of the assignment asks students to write an informal response to this assignment that is based upon their experience and includes linkages to our course readings. 

In this  project students assess the uses and limits of the position they take regarding some aspect or issue related to writing, discourse, and identity. 

Students are asked to choose a writing-related issue focused on any of the articles discussed in class that they want to continue to work with. Students develop a research question that they feel personally invested in and curious about, and that they want to attempt to answer.
