Accessing the Campus RemoteApp / Virtualization Farm

These are the currently supported methods to access the Campus RemoteApp/Virtualization farm.

Application Access

Not all users will see all applications/desktops. Access to applications may be controlled by licensing, department/college membership, or other factors. If you feel you should have access to an Application, or Desktop that you do not have access to, please contact your IT support representatives.

RemoteApp and Desktop Connections Applet

The following instructions will show you how to connect to the Campus RemoteApp/Virtualization Farm using the RemoteApp and Desktop Connections Applet.

 

Requirements

  • Internet Connection
  • Windows 7 or higher Operating System; It is highly encouraged to be running Windows 10.

Configuring the RemoteApp and Desktop Connections Applet

Windows Configuration

The Applet must be configured the first time it is used. To configure it, to conncet to the Campus RemoteApp/Virtualization Farm, please do the following:

  1. Start → Windows System → Control Panel → Change "View by:" (in the top right) to Small Icons or Large Icons → "RemoteApp and Desktop Connections"
  2. Select "Access RemoteApp and Desktops" from the left side.
  3. Enter the following Connection URL: https://remoteapps.rit.edu/RDWeb/Feed/webfeed.aspx
  4. If prompted to login, enter your RIT Username and Password, If the "Domain" does not say "MAIN" or "FINANCE" then login with your username preceded by "MAIN\" or "FINANCE\" depending on which domain your account is part of.
  5. You should now be able to access your RemoteApp and Desktop Connections.

macOS Configuration

  1. From FinderGo → Applications → Microsoft Remote Desktop
  2. Once open, click the + (plus) menu and select Add Workspace
  3. Enter your email address to auto-discover the proper URL to the Remote Resources feed.

    After entering your email, the window should expand as seen below.

    If for some reason the feed is not auto-discovered, manually enter https://remoteapps.rit.edu/RDWeb/Feed
  4. Enter your RIT computer account username and password
  5. You will now see the Remote Resources available to you from Rochester Institute of Technology
  6. Double-click on the application you'd like to use
  7. Enter your RIT computer account username and password
  8. The first time you load a remote resource may take a few moments while your profile is built on the remote server. Subsequent launches will be faster.
  9. Your remote resource will be available in a new Microsoft Remote Desktop window that will be opened.

Accessing your RemoteApp and Desktop Connections

Once you have configured the RemoteApp and Desktop connections applet, You can access your apps one of several ways:

  • Start → All Programs → "Work Resources" will list all of your allowed RemoteApps and Desktops
  • From the System Tray, right click on the "RemoteApp and Desktop Connections" icon, and select "Open RemoteApp and Desktop Connections" and then select "View Resources"
  • Start → "Control Panel" → RemoteApp and Desktop Connections - and then select "View Resources"

 

Refreshing/Updating your RemoteApp and Desktop Connections

In most cases, the Connection is updated periodically automatically. This will refresh and add newly provisioned applications to your list of Remote Resources. This can also be done manually using the following process, when necessary:

  • Start → "Control Panel" → RemoteApp and Desktop Connections - and then select "View Details" and then "Update Now" to connect to the servers and check for newly provisioned Remote Resources or Desktops.

Using the RemoteApp and Desktops Web Gateway

The RemoteApp and Desktops Web Gateway is a website/web app that can be used from many devices to access Remote Applications and Desktops.

Accessing the RemoteApp and Desktop Web Gateway

The following instructions can be used to access the RemoteApp and Desktop Web Gateway

  1. From an internet browser, navigate to the following URL: https://remoteapps.rit.edu/RDWeb
  2. Login using your RIT Computer Account and password.
  3. Select the RemoteApp or Remote Desktop you wish to use.
  4. You may need to login to the application separately with your RIT Computer Account and password, depending on the application.
