RIT Enterprise Slack

What is RIT Enterprise Slack?

Slack is a collaboration hub that enables real-time communications and connections in a searchable platform for real-time messaging, content sharing, learning, and more. RIT Enterprise Slack allows teams within RIT to have separate, but connected, workspaces across the university.

Who can use RIT Enterprise Slack?

RIT Enterprise Slack is available to all RIT students, faculty, and staff.

Getting Started

If you're not familiar with Slack, Slack's Help Center page provides a wealth of good information on what Slack is, how to use it, and how to adjust your preferences to get the most out of it!

Accessing Slack

  • On your phone or tablet, you can get the Slack app from the app store on your device.
  • On your personally-owned computer, download Slack from https://slack.com/downloads.
  • Employees using an ITS-managed computer can download Slack from Software Center (Windows) or Managed Software Center (Mac).

Join the RIT Community Workspace

All RIT students, faculty, and staff members can join the RIT Community workspace in RIT Enterprise Slack.  Once you have joined, you can then create or join channels in that workspace, or direct message anyone else at RIT who has already signed into Enterprise Slack.  To join, visit https://rit-community.slack.com.

Requesting a New Workspace

Please review our Things to Consider Before Requesting a Workspace page before making a workspace request.

  • Faculty requesting a workspace for coursework: visit the Requesting a Slack Course Workspace instructions for detail on how to proceed.
  • Employees (faculty or staff) requesting a workspace for your college, division, department, or research: complete our Slack workspace request form to begin the process (RIT login required). Please note that in order to prevent overlap and confusion in your organization, we will request Assoc VP/Dean level approval prior to creating an organization-based workspace for employees.
  • RIT recognized Student Clubs & Organizations: Creating a space for your club or organization on the Grid allows you to communicate easily within your organization and collaborate with others in the RIT community.  Transitioning to the RIT Slack Enterprise Grid is optional; student organizations and groups may continue to use your free, non-RIT communications tools if they choose. Members must have RIT computer accounts and must be current RIT students, faculty, and/or staff. If you are interested in setting up a workspace for your student club or organization, please complete the Workspace Request Form.
  • If you do not fit in one of those groups, we recommend creating private channel(s) in RIT Community and inviting the students, faculty members, or staff members with which you want to collaborate.
