Relative Clauses - Combining and Producing

Guided Practice

For each pair of sentences below, think about ways of combining the two sentences into one new sentence containing a “restrictive relative clause.” Recall that a restrictive relative clause, which is not surrounded by commas, restricts or limits the meaning of the noun phrase it modifies.

In combining the two sentences, incorporate the second sentence into the first sentence. You may want to write down your new sentence on a piece of paper. Then click on “ANSWER” to see the correct combination(s).

Notice that the two sentences have one noun phrase in common (for example, a photographer in #1). The position of the repeated noun phrase in the second sentence will become the “relativized position” within the relative clause in your new sentence.
