    ‘Spoon River Anthology’ finds life at RIT

    A story written 100 years ago featuring epitaphs from dozens of deceased individuals is finding life this week as Spoon River Anthology premieres Saturday virtually on YouTube for the fall production from NTID.

    Anna Murray Douglass art installation to be unveiled Friday

    An art installation depicting Anna Murray Douglass, the first wife of famed social reformer and abolitionist Frederick Douglass, will be unveiled today at the site of where the couple lived at 297 Alexander St. in Rochester from 1848 to 1851. The piece was funded by RIT.

    This past weekend we continued to experience a rise of COVID-19. Rates of infection have increased to the point where we must elevate our COVID Alert Level to Orange. This will prompt changes in the way we operate for the remainder of the semester.

    RIT/NTID Randleman Program announces new protégés

    Addressing the need for diverse representation in the sign language interpreting profession is the goal of a highly successful program at NTID. The Randleman Program aims to equip interpreters of color who are newer to the field for the demands of interpreting in a postsecondary environment, while simultaneously increasing diversity representation.

    RIT/NTID announces personnel changes to support antiracism programs

    NTID has announced personnel changes in support of the college’s Antiracism and Social Justice Plan, which is scheduled for release this fall. Alesia Allen has been named assistant vice president for diversity and inclusion; Joseph Hill will serve as assistant dean for ALANA faculty recruitment and retention; Thomastine “Tommie” Sarchet-Maher is assistant dean of ALANA Outreach, Access, and Success; and Peter Hauser has been named assistant dean of research mentoring.

    RIT/NTID inventors receive patent for hearing test

    A new method for evaluating hearing has received a second patent by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. Work leading to the patent, “Method for Determining Hearing Thresholds in the Absence of Pure-Tone Testing,” was conducted at Rochester Institute of Technology’s National Technical Institute for the Deaf.

    RIT spring semester will begin Jan. 25

    RIT classes for spring semester will begin Jan. 25. The semester will also include three “recharge” days and one reading day prior to final exams. The last day of classes for spring semester will be Wednesday, May 5, with final exams running May 7-13. Commencement is scheduled for May 14-15.
