Red Barn Climbing

The Red Barn is home to one of the top collegiate indoor rock climbing facilities in the country.

Red Barn Climbing is a bouldering-only gym, where climbs are shorter and falls are protected with padding. Climbing routes are set and maintained to accommodate all skill levels, from beginner to expert.

Red Barn Climbing is currently open to RIT students, staff, faculty and the community (age 18+).

Find Us on Campus

The Red Barn is a 100-year-old “Wells” style dairy barn located at the far west end of campus, about one eighth of a mile northwest of the Riverknoll apartments.

From RIT's main entrance, enter the traffic circle and exit at the first turnout (heading south). Follow the perimeter road until the Red Barn is visible on the left (heading west). Pass the Red Barn and take the next left-hand turn into the Riverknoll Apartments. Turn left again and follow the road down to the Red Barn.

Note: The Red Barn is not heated and does not have plumbing in the barn. Please dress based on the outside temperature. A restroom is located in our annex, adjacent to the Red Barn.

Team Building Opportunities

Team Building is offered as a service to groups from both within and outside of the RIT community. Any RIT community group, consisting of RIT students, staff and/or faculty, may schedule a 1-3 hour session at the Red Barn. This session will be custom tailored to meet the needs and objectives or your group members.

Goals for this program:

  • Foster team spirit
  • Enhance group communication skills
  • Increase problem solving capabilities
  • Promote group support, trust, and cooperation
  • Explore risk-taking
  • Instill personal self-confidence, motivation and empowerment

We support and promote the "challenge by choice" philosophy for all programs that we offer.
