SOIS Senator
Bio
Hi, I’m Gigi Bakos, a third year SOIS student in the 4+2 Sustainable Architecture program. I am from the finger lakes region, and in my free time I enjoy being outside. I have always been drawn to the intersection of community, the environment, and design which guide my academic path and campus involvement. On campus, I work in the SOIS office doing media for social pages, and at the front desk. This role has allowed me to connect with SOIS students and gain insight into how our school functions. During my time here at RIT I have enjoyed the SOIS program because of the flexibility and autonomy it gives students to shape their education path.
Platform
As a SOIS student, I love the community atmosphere, accessibility to different opportunities, and the self-driven environment that makes our school unique. I also believe the SOIS program can sometimes be challenging to make connections. With the student body having individualized degree paths and a big percent of transfer students, it can be challenging to find connection, and clarity about opportunities. My motivation comes from a desire to foster a community where every student feels supported, engaged, and empowered. I want to help bridge the gap between students, faculty and help students make connections in multidisciplinary studies. I will push for student showcases, discipline-based networking events, and alumni connection panels. If elected, I will prioritize open communication by regularly seeking input, hosting feedback sessions, and making myself approachable to any student who wants their perspective represented. I want to use this role to strengthen transparency between the student body and the decisions being made on their behalf. SOIS thrives when students feel connected, supported, and empowered. I am committed to building a community where every student feels like they belong and have a voice.
