Bio

Hello! My name is Kelsey Luke and I am so excited to be running for Women’s Senator. I am a third year dual degree majoring in New Media Design and Computational Mathematics from the sunny Phoenix, Arizona! I’ve debated running for Student Government since starting here, and am excited to see what kind of impact I can have. My other roles on campus consist of being the president of Alpha Sigma Alpha sorority, a wonderful group dedicated to elevating the influence of women. I have been a part of this organization since I came to RIT, and have done numerous things within it to support women’s voices. I also work for the RIT College Activities Board, have been an Orientation Leader, and teach RIT Year One Programs, so leadership is no new concept to me. I’ve worked with students of all ages and backgrounds, and look forward to the challenges this role could bring me.

Platform

As your Women's Senator, I hope to create more opportunities to connect the different all-female organizations on campus! Whether thats WiC, We@RIT, or another academic organization, or a sorority on campus, I hope to better connect these groups and host events more open to the community. Coming to RIT from an all-girls high school, I was part of a community where every leadership role was held by a woman, and that definitely shaped who I am today. I hope that we can connect outside our majors and share our experiences with one another. I also hope to use my platform to boost the engagement with all-women organizations. These communities are ones that many students don't even know about, and I hope to make our campus and first year students more aware of these communities they can connect with. Causes on campus and fundraisers are something I want to work on as well, as we can give back to our own community and also that of greater Rochester. I have several women-specific charities in mind that I would love to host events and fundraisers to benefit.

The benefits I hope to stem from these goals are as follows:

1. Increased community involvement and better on campus connections within the female student body.

2. Increased opportunities for women's organizations to host larger events and collaborate with one another.

3. Greater publicity for womens' organizations and causes on campus, especially for first year students.

4. Greater personal connections to causes on campus and in the Rochester area.

Thank you for your time!
