Bio Brandon

My name is Brandon Hernandez, a proud Hermano of Latino America Unida, Lambda Alpha Upsilon (LAU) Fraternity Inc. I am a 4th year student in pursuit of my BS/MS in Mechanical Engineering Technology. I am originally from downstate New York, about an hour from NYC. I have always gravitated towards community driven organizations. This started back at home in a teen center that encouraged collaborative mentorship with small businesses and local leaders. Through this organization, I learned the value of making meaningful connections with those in my community. This carried along with me to college, where I immersed myself into many aspects of student life. I am currently a Resident Advisor for Residence Life, President of the Beta Chapter of LAU, Director of Finance for the Greek Leadership Committee, and actively on co-op at Qualitrol. My previous roles on campus include President of the Multicultural Greek Council, Research Assistant for the Smart Manufacturing Research Group and member of M.O.C.H.A. (Men of Color, Honor, and Ambition). In my free time, I love to work on cars, snowboard, spend time with loved ones, and build my relationship with God.

Platform

Our desire to run for President and Vice President of the Greek Leadership Committee is authentic and unwavering. We want to ensure Greek brothers and sisters are allowed equal input in decision making at all levels. Considering our combined experiences in the Committee, we were able to identify issues that limit opportunities for success here at RIT. These challenges stem from a culture we accepted that prohibits transparency, exacerbates conflicts amongst councils, and ultimately hinders the ability for us to grow with one another. As President and Vice President, we will make changes to improve the Greek Life experience for all.

The Greek Leadership Committee was established this past fall for the purpose of serving as a student-led liaison for all chapters recognized at RIT. Current input from council Presidents will provide more insight into resolving conflicts. Establishing internal petition processes that mirror the PAWprint format of Student Government and monthly town halls will provide opportunities of transparency and member engagement. With input from all members, we can address these issues to create a stronger platform for Greek Life.

As your President and Vice President, we will incorporate regular meetings with Fraternity and Sorority Life to educate, coordinate and promote regulations that will strengthen our foundation together. Having a united voice between FSL and Greek Life will bridge the connection between Greeks and faculty. When issues arise, these meetings will create the opportunity for open communication and advancement of all chapters.

Furthermore, as your representatives, we will seek to foster an environment that promotes collaboration between Greek chapters and RIT organizations. This collaboration will be accomplished with continuous improvements in programming, marketing, and communication that engage Greek members and the wider RIT community. To support this, we propose a unified Greek life media strategy through campus groups and the GLC Instagram. This will allow councils to cross-post and continue the Greek Life Newsletters that can be distributed campus-wide to share information.

We aim to serve Greek Life by supporting the development of future leaders within our community. Our campaign will provide the platform for new and existing members to make a difference. Let us work hard to make the Greek life experience engaging. Our college experience is a time where we must grow in our leadership experiences to be prepared for what life holds ahead. As your representatives, we will create these opportunities, and value your vote for our team.
