Bio Martina

Hello! My name is Martina Alvez, and I’m running for President of the Greek Leadership Committee. I’m a third-year Industrial Engineering major at RIT, and I currently serve as Vice President of Programming for Zeta Tau Alpha. Over my time in the Greek community, I’ve held multiple leadership roles, including VP of Diversity & Inclusion, VP of Programming, and President within CPC. I’ve also been actively involved in building and shaping the GLC from its early stages, helping establish its structure and working alongside other chapter leaders to organize major events and initiatives that bring the community together.

I approach leadership with a collaborative and organized style, making sure everyone knows their role, meetings are productive, and communication stays clear and consistent. My leadership experiences have given me a strong understanding of chapter operations, how to support members, and how to foster collaboration across councils while maintaining positive relationships with campus administrators.

I am committed to serving as a dependable and engaged representative for all Greek students, supporting our community with energy, dedication, and thoughtful leadership.

Bio Sebastian

Hello! I’m Sebastian Canakis, and I’m running for Greek Leadership Committee Vice President. I’m a third-year Computer Science major at RIT, and I currently serve as Treasurer for Phi Kappa Psi for the second consecutive year. In this role, I manage chapter budgeting, dues processes, and financial planning with a focus on clarity and accountability. I’ve also worked with campus clubs and chapter committees supporting operations and community initiatives, and I care a lot about making the Greek experience at RIT feel organized, transparent, and worth showing up for.

Through my time in Phi Kappa Psi, I’ve seen how strong representation and consistent communication can improve participation and outcomes across Greek Life. When meetings are run well, decisions are documented, and resources are shared clearly, it becomes easier for busy students to stay engaged and contribute. I bring a practical, detail-oriented style to leadership: set the plan, run efficient meetings, document decisions, and communicate results and resources. I believe our success as a community starts with all of us showing up for each other and working together toward shared goals.

Platform

Alvez/Canakis Platform:

Greek Life at RIT works best when chapters feel represented, councils communicate clearly, and meetings lead to meaningful outcomes. As a President/Vice President, our goal is to make GLC more reliable, accessible, and transparent for every chapter across campus.

Pillars of our Campaign:

Clear Communication & Reliable Follow-Through

Strong communication and follow-through are essential for a thriving Greek community. We know schedules are busy, and academics come first, so we plan to communicate required and optional meetings and offered events promptly, ensuring chapters can participate fully and stay informed.

Advocacy and Representation

The President will bring chapter-informed priorities to Student Government and RIT staff and provide updates on progress. Chapters will also be recognized for their achievements, and we will use GLC social channels to highlight initiatives, celebrate successes, and provide visibility and support across the community.

Community & Chapter Collaboration

We will ensure every chapter has a voice in Greek Life by fostering collaboration across councils and creating spaces, both at events and in discussions, where chapters can connect, socialize, and share ideas. The GLC will make sure all chapters feel included, supported, and celebrated, amplifying every voice in our community.

Transparency Around Resources and Financial Processes

Chapters should have clear guidance on funding and support systems. We will work with finance leadership to create a simple 'Greek Finance 101' guide, so all chapters can take full advantage of available resources and receive the support they deserve from the GLC.

Effective Presidents’ Round-Table

The VP will run Presidents’ Round-Table with a consistent format: council updates, shared changes, and actionable discussion items. Minutes will be published in advance so representatives can come prepared with feedback and ideas. Clear expectations and guidelines will help all chapters feel included and ensure meetings focus on collaboration and progress.

Bylaws Clarity and Governance

We will strengthen the GLC bylaws to ensure every chapter understands the organization’s responsibilities and processes. During our term, we will clarify and refine the bylaws, run a structured feedback process, and propose targeted improvements where chapters agree changes are needed, setting a strong standard for future representatives.
