Reception: - to

During the current age of medication home delivery and take-home health tests, this exhibit highlights a selection of pharmaceutical graphic design sourced from the Cary Graphic Arts Collection and the Vignelli Center for Design Studies Archive at Rochester Institute of Technology. The work exhibited is by notable graphic designers who include Will Burtin, Lester Beall, George Giusti, and Lella and Massimo Vignelli that date from the 1940s to the 2000s. Each artist became a prominent creative figure in the American Northeast within their lifetime.

The exhibit is composed of large-scale scans and composites derived from original materials designed for Upjohn Pharmaceuticals, Ciba-Geigy AG, and AbdiIbrahim Pharmaceuticals. The exhibit explores a variety of imagery that includes women and Greco-Roman figures, and highlights how pharmaceutical marketing is both a graphic design niche and also broad in reach and scope.
