Evolve or Devolve: James Porto

This solo exhibition of work by James (Jim) Porto is a visual survey of his journey with photography, from analog experimental processes to contemporary imagery. After decades of commercial and editorial projects, Porto now teaches in the Advertising Photography track in RIT's School of Photographic Arts and Sciences, where he continues to develop an aesthetic language all his own.

In his earlier work, James used elaborate darkroom and in-camera processes to assemble his photographs, and pioneered digital processes in Photoshop's early days.. He has worked collaboratively with art directors, editors, designers, and students, and has become known as a restless experimenter with light, a problem solver who loves a challenge, a focused, engaged director of talent and an energetic, enthusiastic, conceptual thinker.
