WELCOME to The Department of Chemistry!
The RIT Chemistry and Biochemistry Program offers students the opportunity to understand the phenomena that affect nearly every aspect of our lives and environment. Students will explore the nature of the physical world, the global problems that face our society, and the methods and limitations of chemistry today. Our flexible curriculum includes exposure to the theories, laws, techniques, and applications of the science. Students interested in careers in chemistry or biochemistry will find electives that provide a strong background for work in graduate school, a career in industry, or other positions requiring a strong foundation in chemistry.
Sincerely,
Dr. Paul Rosenberg,
Department Chair

Scientists at Rochester Institute of Technology and Dowling College are engaged in a similar game with higher stakes. Instead of cards, they are matching the protein to the job it performs in the human body. Their research could lead to drugs that target proteins and switch on or off specific functions associated with various diseases.
College of Science Distinguished Alumni Award
Each year, senior leaders select one graduate from each college who represents the best of RIT. This year, RIT will honor 10 distinguished alumni who stand out among the nearly 110,000 accomplished graduates. The awardee from the College of Science is an alumnus of the Chemistry Department and we couldn't be prouder!
Two RIT students have been awarded a David Pasto Co-op Fellowship Award. The Pasto award is given each year to chemistry students who show an interest in conducting research.
Three RIT Students Chosen as 2012 Chi Omega Lambda Inductees
Eighteen Undergraduate Affiliate Network (UAN) students from across the country have been elected into the ASBMB Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Honor Society (Chi Omega Lambda).
Chemistry major Russ Burkhardt '15, was recently awarded a GlaxoSmithKline Undergraduate Summer Fellowship.

The faculty at RIT are committed to involving both undergraduate and graduate students in their research programs. Students at RIT join research groups as early as their first year. A research opportunity provides an enriching hands-on experience for students that prepares them for their career or further education.
The RIT Chemistry Department predominantly resides in the Gosnell Building. Additional chemistry facilities are housed in the Chester F. Carlson Center for Imaging Science. These buildings house classrooms, seminar rooms, teaching and research laboratories, and instrument rooms including a 300-MHz and 500MHz NMR
The possibilities are endless after graduating with a degree in chemistry. RIT alumni have earned positions in Industry, gone on for a graduate degree, entered medical school, and started their own companies.
