General Science Exploration at RIT stands out because of its advising and support
network.
Even
before students arrive on campus, the Director of General Science Exploration carefully tailors a first quarter schedule which matches
each student's abilities and interests. During their first two
quarters at RIT, all General Science Exploration students attend a seminar class
which meets for an hour and a half each week. Students learn
about each of the programs in the College of Science, work on
schedules for subsequent quarters which match their individual
strengths, and meet faculty, students and alumni who can discuss
the opportunities each program offers. In seminar, students
learn about co-op,
work with the career counseling center, discuss high school-college
transition issues, discover their own learning styles, and learn
about study skills which will optimize their program of study
at RIT.
Each
department in the College of Science has a faculty representative
to the General Science Exploration Advisory
Committee. Within this faculty group are several winners
of the Eisenhart Award for Outstanding Teaching. As a student
begins to bring into focus his or her program interest, these
faculty work with the director to guide and assist the student
in choosing courses and experiences for making an informed choice.
