The Hare and the Hound

Start

My old hound dog is lazy, and is lying at rest when suddenly a hare hops by moving at a constant 10 m/s. My dog gets to his feet, and one second after the hare passed him he bounds off with an initial speed of 20 m/s, but slowing down steadily at 1.11 m/2.

  1. Is there a time when the hare and the hound are moving at the same velocity?
  2. If yes, how far apart are they?
  3. When are the hare and the hound next to each other?
  4. Who is moving faster at the times you just determined?
  5. How can you determine instantaneous velocity from the graph?
