RIT faculty participate in 8th annual Gulf Research Meeting

RIT faculty recently participated in the 8th Gulf Research Meeting held at the University of Cambridge, United Kingdom. The workshop “Smart Cities in the GCC: Current State, Opportunities and Challenges”, had participants from a broad range of institutes including Golisano Institute for Sustainability, RIT Dubai, Smart Dubai Office, Masdar Institute of Science and Technology, Carnegie Mellon University, and others. The workshop drew more than 30 international experts in the areas of smart cities, urban planning, public policy, IoT, big data, cyber security, systems engineering and blockchain. Workshop co-director Wael Samad, assistant professor of mechanical engineering at RIT Dubai, met with Giovanna Potesta, assistant professor of architecture at GIS, for discussions focused on people’s sense of place in the implementation of smart cities and the corresponding consequences in cultural references and social behaviors of the citizens.
