Got a major?

What is University Studies?

University Studies is an undeclared program option that was launched in Fall 2009, under the Division of Academic Affairs, Office of the Provost, to assist first and second year undergraduate students in their major exploration journey. University Studies serves two populations: (1) New-to-RIT students in their first or second year of undergraduate study and (2) Current RIT students who wish to re-explore other major options available to them at RIT.

Through advising, coaching, career assessment, and course sampling, our students have the opportunity to make an informed, educated decision when choosing their final RIT major.

Keep your mind and options open and let us know how we can assist you!

University Studies will facilitate the engagement of undeclared students into the RIT community and guide them toward personal success in selecting their major and career path.

The RIT University Studies staff and faculty will provide academic advisement and career guidance to University Studies students and to the general RIT student community. We will guide students toward identifying a program of study and a pathway to achieve their educational and career goals. This will be accomplished through:

  • Individual advising
  • Attention to overall student growth, development, and success
  • Career Assessment to discover each student’s interests, values, and skills
  • Collaboration and partnership with the RIT academic colleges and divisions
