RIT’s College of Science will receive funding from the Simons Empire Faculty Fellowship program for four new tenure-track faculty members.

Carlos Lousto, Distinguished Professor in the School of Mathematics and Statistics, is a recipient of the 2024 RAICES Award, granted by the Secretariat of Innovation, Science, and Technology (SICyT) of the Argentine government.

RIT experts are at the forefront of research that aims to better understand the impact of microplastics on the environment. RIT’s interdisciplinary microplastics team has received nearly $10 million in funding since 2020.

As the final phase of the new research building is completed, faculty-researchers from three of RIT’s colleges are preparing to be its first residents. They expect to move into the 39,000-square-foot building in the spring semester.

RIT is spearheading a transformative $7.3 million research hub in collaboration with the University of Rochester. The center will study the lifecycle of microplastics, including its origin as plastic waste, distribution, and movement in the Great Lakes freshwater ecosystem.
